Cassidy Wilson (she/her) is the new campus LGBTQIA2s+ Wellness Coordinator. 

 

In this role, Wilson will provide counselling to students, act as a resource for student clubs, provide educational sessions and resources to the campus community, and advise the university on matters of policy and programming related to gender identity and sexual orientation. 

 

These responsibilities will be shared with UNB and NBCC, but STUdents can meet with Wilson on campus Tuesdays in George Martin Hall room 203 or reach out via email (cassidy@stu.ca). 

 

Prior to joining the STU community, Wilson spent many years volunteering at the Inside Out Youth Group with Calgary Outlink as a group facilitator, where her responsibilities included helping organize activities with other facilitators such as games, movie nights, and promoting open dialogue events about relevant issues that youth were facing.  

 

More recently, she was a Counselling Practicum Intern at UNB Counselling Services where she participated in supervision activities, co-facilitated a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy counselling group, advocated on behalf of clients, and did clinical patient documentation. Previously, she has worked at the Calgary Counselling Centre in the intake office, where she was the first point of contact for clients who were in need of therapeutic services. 

 

Wilson holds a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) from Mount Royal University and is currently completing a Master of Education (Counselling) from UNB.  During her education, she has been an advocate for LGBTQIA2s+ issues, focusing the majority of her work on the unique experiences of the LGBTQIA2s+ community, with a specific focus on trans-related issues. 

  

Upcoming Meet and Greet 

Wilson will be hosting a drop-in meet and greet Tuesday, January 21, from 1:30-4:00 PM. All STUdents and members of the campus community are encouraged to stop by.  

 

This new position is funded by an Access and Success Grant from the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training, and Labour, is designed to assist with the well-being and retention of LGBTQIA2s+ students.
